Understanding the Duty to Refer
If you are a professional supporting someone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness, it is important to understand the difference between a statutory referral and a supported accommodation enquiry.
Two separate referral pathways
The statutory Duty to Refer is a referral to the local housing authority (council), not to MKM Housing. A separate conversation about supported accommodation with MKM Housing can take place alongside this process.
Duty to Refer – Local Housing Authority
Under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, specified public authorities have a statutory duty to refer eligible people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to a local housing authority.
MKM Housing is not the recipient of the statutory Duty to Refer.
Supported Accommodation with MKM Housing
Separately, professionals can contact MKM Housing to discuss whether our supported accommodation may be suitable for someone who needs housing support.
This conversation can happen alongside a statutory referral to the local council.
Make an accommodation enquiry →Need to discuss a supported accommodation placement?
Our team can discuss your enquiry and the available accommodation options separately from the statutory council referral process.
